Jet-Alliance Soars into New MarketThe very latest in aircraft technology was on display at the Business Aircraft and Jet Preview held at Carlsbad's McClellan/Palomar Airport on Thursday, Sept. 20. Among the many companies vying for the business travel dollar at the event was Jet-Alliance, Inc. “Until now, only the largest companies and wealthiest families could afford a private jet. We're serving people of moderate wealth and small businesses,” said Jet-Alliance CEO Randall Sanada in describing the new wave of customers for private aircraft.
problem,” Sanada said. And here a needed service met with an experienced service provider, and Jet-Alliance was born. Jet-Alliance offers clients the opportunity to become part owners of their own private jet. For example, participants in Jet-Alliance's shared ownership model can purchase a one-eighth or one-quarter share in a jet airplane, which allows them use of the plane throughout the year. The company's business expanded out of this attempt to provide additional services to its existing financial clients; Jet-Alliance is able to offer these existing financial clients a shared ownership program at a discount. Previous entries into the private jet business, operating under what is known as a fractional ownership model, functioned with much higher profit margins and correspondingly demanded much higher prices for their services. Jet-Alliance's Chuck Lerman explained that companies now operating in the fractional ownership market typically require approximately $900,000 as an initial investment for part ownership in a private jet. Lerman cited Jet-Alliance's leaner profit structure as a major factor in the company's ability to serve a larger market. “We charge actual cost plus four-and-a-half-percent for the shared ownership, then operating costs plus nine percent,” explained Lerman. Jet-Alliance's customers can buy a one-eighth share for approximately $225,000. The new business model has allowed Jet-Alliance to expand its business into a previously underserved market. “This brings people into the market that had been priced out,” Lerman said. Another pillar of Jet-Alliance's services is technology. Advances in aeronautical engineering and jet engine design are making increasingly high performance aircraft available to the general public. Bill Miller, a pilot for Jet-Alliance, emphasized the com-pany's partnership with Eclipse Aviation and Jet-Alliance's acquisition of the first production model Eclipse 500 jet, presented to the publicat Palomar Airport, as signal to the company's success. Miller, a former navy pilot and physician/flight surgeon, elaborated on the new aircraft, “This is a new concept. There has never before been an aircraft this small with jet engines.”
